Background
The Far North has some of the highest rates of alcohol-related road incidents in New Zealand. Far North REAP’s Road Safety team was looking for practical ways to improve awareness around drink driving and encourage better decision-making within the community.
Recognising that many people rely on assumptions about whether they are safe to drive, Far North REAP wanted to provide a simple and accessible tool that would help individuals make more informed choices before getting behind the wheel.
They approached Advance Diagnostics seeking a solution that could be placed directly within a hospitality environment, allowing patrons to independently assess their alcohol levels before making travel decisions.

The Solution
Advance Diagnostics supplied and supported the installation of a Centurion Quantum Wall Mounted Breathalyser at the Awanui Hotel, located north of Kaitaia.
The system provided an easy-to-use self-testing solution that allowed patrons to check their alcohol levels independently. Staff were then able to use these results as conversation starters to encourage responsible decision-making and safer transport options.
